Musky One Fly Tournament

New Jersey State Council of Trout Unlimited is pleased to announce the first Musky One Fly Tournament with 100% of the proceeds to benefit river restoration work under TU’s Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative. Cost to enter is a modest $100 with checks being made to New Jersey State Council Trout Unlimited and mailed to Rick Ege, Ex. Director/Treasurer at PO Box 594, Budd Lake, NJ 07828.

When? Saturday, October 9th from 8am (mandatory mtg.) until 4 pm. We will meet at the former Cliffdale Inn, now Casia Grill at 1280, route 57 North, Port Murray, NJ (Mansfield Twp. above Penwell) for both pre tournament meeting and final “weigh in” at 4 pm.

Where? All open waters on the Musconetcong River (no private club waters)

Details and Rules? This bragging rights tournament is to benefit the works of TU in this critical watershed and help pay for river restoration projects within the watershed of benefit to trout. There will be a fly rod given to the winner, but the idea is to raise funds for a great cause and enjoy a day on the water right after the state fall stocking of 2 year old trout.
  • Contestants will pull a name from the hat and be paired with that person for the day. These are not “teams”, they are partners to help you measure your fish and keep you honest (we all know fishermen are completely honest)
  • Total inches landed during the competition wins.
  • Contestants can use only 1 fly pattern and not more than 3 flies of that exact same pattern, size, color, etc. Leave your fly boxes at home and choose your pattern carefully!
  • Please bring a tape measure and pad and pencil to record your fish’s lengths.
  • Each contestant will choose the fishing location for half of the tournament (approx. 3:15 each) unless otherwise agreed upon.
  • All judges decisions are final. Judges will be known to all during the contest pre-meeting at 8 am.
Your partner will watch or measure each fish you catch and you will do the same for him or her.
All rules will be written out and handed out during the pre-contest meeting where all questions will be answered as well. Please consider coming out for this event, it is important to financially help with the ongoing restoration projects in the watershed and demonstrate your support. You do not need to be a TU member to participate. Walk ons will be welcomed, but we strongly encourage all to at least contact Brian Cowden at BCowden@tu.org or by cell at 201-230-3383 if you plan to attend just so that we are properly prepared on October 9th. Check our website at www.njtu.org for any changes or rain date changes. Thank you all in advance!
