9/9 BART LOMBARDO – Everything Tenkara

Bart Lombardo, creator of Panfish On The Fly, and current president of Central Jersey Chapter of Trout Unlimited will share his in-depth knowledge of Tenkara fly fishing – a traditional method of fishing used among Japanese trout anglers for over 200 years. Bart will describe everything needed to get you started with this very simple, effective style of fly fishing.

10/21 KEN REINARD – Our Heritage of Angling

Well-known author of “The Colonial Angler’s Manual of Flyfishing and Flytying,” Ken Reinard, will entertain us with his in-depth knowledge of 18th century fly fishing and the most famous of all fishing philosophers, Izaak Walton. Ken, dresses the part and uses period tackle to demonstrate the fly fishing techniques of Colonial times. A presentation not to be missed!

11/11 CAPT. DAVE VOLLENWEIDER -- Winter Trout Fishing on Round Valley Reservoir

With nearly 30 years of experience fishing the freshwater rivers, lakes, and streams of New Jersey, New York, and Eastern Canada, Captain Dave Vollenweider of Live to Fish Guide Service will share the tactics and techniques to put Round Valley Reservoir’s trout in your boat during the cold of winter.

12/2 3rd ANNUAL CHAPTER HOLIDAY PARTY at Orvis-Princeton Store

Orvis-Princeton store staff will showcase new Orvis clothing and fishing products available for the holiday season. Games, food, and refreshments will be available along with some outstanding raffle items. This is a family event so be sure to bring your significant other to share this fun & festive evening!

1/13 TIM FLAGLER – Fishing Patagonia

If you tie flies, you may be familiar with Tim Flagler's Tightline Productions videos from YouTube and his weekly tying segment on Orvis News. Tim is also a fishing guide and hosts trips to Argentina’s Patagonia region – a destination that should be on the bucket list of every fly fisher. Tim’s video expertise will be utilized to share footage of his experiences during past trips to the region that will be sure to make you feel like you’re there!


Avid fly fisherman/fly-tyer, ESCTU’s own, Jeff Conover, will demonstrate how to tie a few select flies that are effective in area waters. As many of our members will attest, there is just something extra special landing your first trout on a fly that you have tied. All are welcome to bring their own equipment and tie along.

3/9 ANDREW & NANCY MOY– Spey Casting with the Moy’s

Owners of the Tight Lines Fly Fishing, a full service fly shop in Parsippany NJ, Andrew & Nancy Moy will share their enthusiasm and tips for Spey casting – a two-handed technique frequently used when fishing large rivers for Atlantic salmon and steelhead and in the surf where anglers are required to cast larger flies long distances and keep the fly line in front of them.

4/13 GEORGE DANIEL – Fly-Fishing Techniques, Tactics, & Patterns for Streamers

Renowned fly fisherman and author, George Daniel, is one of the most sought-after speakers on the fly-fishing circuit today! George will discuss how to become a more effective streamer fisherman and cover some of the subtle nuances & tricks that will get fish to eat your streamers under a variety of conditions. He’ll also share some of his favorite streamer designs/patterns and the best ways to rig and fish them. Adapting to the situation is what it's all about, and George will show you how to do that!

5/11 ANITA COULTON -- European Style Nymphing Demystified

Orvis-endorsed guide with Cross Current Guide Service & Outfitters on the Upper Delaware, and highly-respected competitive angler on the top-ranked Team Freestone, Anita Coulton will demystify Euro-nymphing for you. It is one of the most productive techniques for catching trout there is today! Anita will cover the rods, leaders, and special techniques used to become a successful Euro-nymph angler. She’ll also provide step-by-step instructions on how to tie your own Euro-nymph leader. (Materials will be provided.)


Chapter members will meet to elect new officers/directors, review the past year’s accomplishments, elicit comments from the membership, and discuss plans for the following year.

No Fee: Fall 2019 Session of "The Art of Fly Tying"

The course will convene at The Watershed Institute Lab on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm starting Oct 2nd, 2019 thru Oct 30th, 2019
